Project Portfolio

Customised Wind Tunnel Balance, Kingston University of London

Custom-designed four-component external force balance system intended for use in a subsonic wind tunnel at the Kingston University London (2025-ongoing). The system is designed by OXROC for precise aerodynamic force and moment measurement, and it includes features for automatic control of model orientation during wind tunnel testing.

High-speed blow down wind tunnel, University of Oxford

Sponsored by Rolls Royce, Dr Zhang developed a new high speed linear cascade tunnel at the Osney lab. The project encompassed everything from 2D/3D CAD design, full CFD simulation, and manufacturing/assembly to smart control systems and instrumentation. The research work is on HP turbine blade tip aero-thermal performance.

Ejector wind tunnel, City University of London

As Reader in Aeronautics, Dr Zhang has worked with a high speed ejector type wind tunnel at City University. He designed a customized cascade test rig for a collaborative research project with Siemens on Engineered roughness in turbine passage.

High speed continuous wind tunnel, University of Michigan – Shanghai Jiaotong University Joint Institute

A continuous high-speed wind tunnel designed and built, featuring a patented rotating disc design for aerothermal research in turbomachinery.

Low-speed open loop wind tunnel, University of Michigan Shanghai Jiaotong University Joint Institute

An open loop low speed wind tunnel designed and built for University teaching purposes. Inlet turbulence and Reynolds number can be varied for experimental aerodynamics and thermal measurement.

High-speed blow down wind tunnel, University of Utah, USA

Dr Zhang been involved in upgrading a blow down wind tunnel at U of Utah (2001-2005). He developed the first generation Labview DAQ system. The research is related to Aerodynamic performance of transonic turbine airfoils, sponsored by DoE, Pratt&Whitney Canada.
